    　　波长为10000～1000米（频率为30～300千赫）的无线电通信。长波以地波及天波的形式传播。在一定范围内，长波通信以地波传播为主，当通信距离大于地波的最大传播距离时，则靠天波来传播信号。长波通信的优点是：通信距离远，能透入岩层、海水一定的深度，受太阳耀斑和核爆炸的影响小，通信比较稳定可靠。其缺点是：发信设备及天线系统庞大,造价高；通频带窄,不适于多路和快速通信；易受天电干扰。长波通信主要用于对潜艇通信、远洋通信、地下通信及导航等。其通信方式主要是人工报和低速印字报，频段高端也可通单边带话。
　　
　　长波通信的历史，可追溯到1901年意大利物理学家G.马可尼进行的跨越大西洋的越洋通信试验。1925年后，由于发现短波能靠电离层反射进行远距离传播，才逐步用短波通信取代一般的长波通信。第二次世界大战中，因对潜艇通信的需要，而又重视发展长波通信。随着导弹、核武器的发展，导致越来越多的军事设施转入地下，长波地下通信将是保障地下指挥所和坑道间应急通信的重要手段。
