教育收益横向计算法又称教育收益年龄组合所得差异法。计算时以参照年度的受同一种教育的不同年龄组合的平均收益作为该种教育全生涯不同年龄组合的收益，与该参照年度教育投入资源(教育成本)比较，求得教育收益。该方法的优点在于:所需资料一次性调查即可获得，简便易行。其计量结果至少可代表某一教育(，J、学、初中、高中、大学)在参照年度的实际收益，用以推断未来投资。但所计量的教育收益只是参照年度的事实，不可能准确反映参照年度以后教育投资全生涯的收益。采用此法有较多假定性，即假定年龄—受教育程度—收入三者关系不随时间而变化，实际上三者关系随受教育者供求的相对变化而变化，因此计算结果具有不准确性。对教育投资决策有参考价值。
