嵩市镇位于资溪县中西部，地处316国道沿线。辖区面积120平方公里，集镇辖区面积约3.8平方公里，辖管9个行政村、1个居委会，总人口10583人，其中商品粮人口1482人，农业人口9101人。自然村71个，耕地面积7902亩，山林面积168448亩，森林覆盖率92%以上。嵩市镇属全省200个重点建设镇之一，也是资溪县重点建设乡镇，距县城21公里，交通便利，各村均有公路相通，已有2个村通了水泥柏油公路，今年又有2个村的水泥公路已立项。
嵩市镇毗邻经济沿海发达地区。位于东部沿海发达地区向内辐射的前沿。近年来，随着改革开放的不断深化，市场经济的发展，嵩市镇借助资源、区位、交通优势，已形成木竹精深加工、特色种养业、旅游开发等支柱产业，促进了嵩市镇经济的快速发展，带动了两个文明建设的双丰收。
2003年，全镇工农业总产值12870万元，完成财政收入226万元，同比增长8%，引进市外资金870万元，完成任务的174%，新增企业6家，尤其是有2家进入了高阜工业园区，在市、县都是有较大影响。农民人均收入达2482元。
