      利用永磁体建立励磁磁场的小功率同步电动机。它的定子产生旋转磁场,转子用永磁材料制成。20世纪80年代出现的钕铁硼永磁材料,其剩磁高达1.2特,矫顽力达890千安/米,且加工方便,为永磁电机的应用开辟了新的前景。
  
  永磁同步电动机起动时,因转子静止,定、转子磁场不能保持相对静止,因而不能产生定向的稳定转矩。故从理论上说,永磁同步电动机无自起动转矩,需在转子上附加笼式绕组(导条)或磁滞环来产生起动转矩(见三相异步电动机、磁滞电动机)。为防止永磁体漏磁过大,笼式绕组不装在一个整体圆环上,而是装在极靴上(图a);磁滞环则装于磁极外圈(图b)。
  
  当电动机的极数很多、转子惯量很小时,在定子磁场建立的第一个半波之内,由于转子的轻微抖动即可跃入同步。这类电动机无需附加装置,称为自起动永磁同步电动机。
