发动机产生 1牛推力或 1千瓦功率时 1小时所消耗的燃油量（公斤），又称单位燃油消耗量，其单位为公斤/牛·时或公斤/千瓦·时。发动机耗油率随飞行高度、速度和工作状态不同而改变。通常用海平面静止条件下最大或额定状态时的耗油率作为评定发动机经济性的重要指标。 现代涡轮喷气发动机的耗油率为0.08～0.1公斤/牛·时(0.8～1.0公斤/公斤力·时)；小流量比涡轮风扇发动机约为0.05～0.07公斤/牛·时;大流量比涡轮风扇发动机可低至0.028～0.04公斤/牛·时；以上两类发动机加力时耗油率约为0.2公斤/牛·时；涡轮螺旋桨发动机和涡轮轴发动机的耗油率按当量功率计算为0.27～0.40公斤/千瓦·时（0.2～0.3公斤/马力·时）。
