绝缘子 insulator 用于支持带电导体并使其绝缘的电器元件。一般由绝缘件(如瓷件)和金属附件(如钢脚、铁帽、法兰等)用胶合剂胶合或机械卡装而成。架空输电线路、发电厂和变电所的母线及各种电气设备的外部带电导体均须用其支持,并使之与大地(或接地物)或其他有电位差的导体绝缘。基本性能包括电气性能、机械性能和热性能。此外,还有耐环境和耐老化等性能。当绝缘子电压等级提高时,其尺寸和重量相应增加,但电气及机械性能并不按比例提高,耐热急变性能则下降。因此,电压等级高的绝缘子的制造较为困难。
