拥有逾30年历史的美国切萨皮克湾大桥位处切萨皮克湾及大西洋会合点,为维珍尼亚东南部及德尔马弗半岛提供一个直接交通路线,始后由维珍尼亚海滩到特拉华和威灵登北部,可缩短95英里之多。
切萨皮克湾大桥(chesapeake)设计是从一个建筑比赛中挑选而来,并于1964年获得美国杰出土木工程成就奖。大桥最特别之处,是在海中心填出两个分别以桥梁贯通两地的人工岛,而岛中间则以隧道连接起来,供船只通过。
