The responses of asphalt pavement to static and dynamic FWD load are analyzed by using the finite element program ABAQUS,to try to find the inertial point in the surface deflection basin.

Based on theory of inertial point,a new assessment method of back calculation of modulus is put forward with the assessment criterion provided.

The influence of surface stiffness on the shape of the deflection basin is discussed,and based on this a novel method of backcalculating moduli of surface and base courses with“inertial point”theory is developed.
