发动机盖(又称发动机罩)是最醒目的车身构件，是买车者经常要察看的部件之一。对发动机盖的主要要求是隔热隔音、自身质量轻、刚性强。
发动机盖的在结构上一般由外板和内板组成，中间夹以隔热材料，内板起到增强刚性的作用，其几何形状由厂家选取，基本上是骨架形式。发动机盖开启时一般是向后翻转，也有小部分是向前翻转。
向后翻转的发动机盖打开至预定角度，不应与前档风玻璃接触，应有一个约为10毫米的最小间距。为防止在行驶由于振动自行开启，发动机盖前端要有保险锁钩锁止装置，锁止装置开关设置在车厢仪表板下面，当车门锁住时发动机盖也应同时锁住。
