中国科学院历史研究所第三所南京史料整理处王可风、刘起釪等编著。1957年10月人民出版社出版。全书共分5章,分别论述了历史档案及其用途；民国档案全宗区分的原则与实际运用；全宗内档案分类、清检、立卷、标题与系统化排列的步骤与方法；探讨了档案与图书资料的区别，判定档案价值和案卷编目的原则与方法；介绍了检索工具的编制，利用制度的建立和档案安全防护工作的内容等。该书对民国档案区分全宗问题提出了独到的见解，对整理工作诸环节各种问题的处理，介绍了许多有益的经验。
