利用炉灶的烟气通过立砖砌成的空心短墙采暖的设备。火墙在中国已有悠久历史。西安阎家村汉代建筑遗址的炉灶，其排烟道先曲折，后直上通于户外，近似后世的火墙。火墙由炉膛、火墙体和烟囱三部分构成。炉膛可设于火墙体内;也可紧贴火墙体设置,形成连墙炉灶。火墙体中设曲回烟道，常砌成厚1.25砖、高1.5～2.0米、长2.0～2.5米的空心短墙。墙内可砌成竖洞、横洞、独洞、花洞等多种形式的烟道。热烟气在墙内流程长，则蓄热时间长，热效率高，散热均匀。烟囱是火墙的排烟通道，应有足够的高度。火墙的炉灶可以做饭，热烟气则通过火墙体供暖。火墙还可兼作隔墙，但不允许作承重结构。
