分类地位未定的 1属。为革兰氏染色阴性、兼性厌氧杆菌。菌体大小(0.3~0.5)×(0.6~1.4)微米,长者可达6微米。球形、椭圆形或杆形,以杆形为主。无动力,无荚膜,在含血清或血液的培养基上生长良好,37℃培养2~3天后形成直径约 1毫米的菌落。在肉汤培养液中生长呈颗粒状。本属能还原硝酸盐,不产生吲哚,尿素酶阳性。DNA中的G+C克分子含量为40.6~42%。对人或动物致病的有伴放线放线杆菌、林氏放线杆菌和马驹放线杆菌。伴放线放线杆菌因常见于人类的某些放线菌病的病灶中而得名。但也可单独致病,如一些亚急性细菌性心内膜炎是由本菌引起的。林氏放线菌杆菌引起牛的放线杆菌病,侵害软组织,化脓,形成肉芽肿,也常侵害舌部,发生木舌病,但不波及骨骼,马驹放线杆菌使幼驹发生败血病、肾炎和关节疾患,从病猪和病犊也曾分离到本菌。
