一种沿着悬垂的绳索向上攀援的中国民间体育活动。爬绳起源于生产活动和军事斗争的需要。《后汉书·南匈奴列传》里说到一次战争中，汉军"绳索相悬，上通天山，大破乌桓"，表明爬绳很早就成为作战的有效手段之一。在山区的日常生产劳动中，遇陡崖峭壁也要悬绳拉索而攀。边远少数民族地区架设的绳桥溜索，攀越时亦需一定的爬绳技巧。爬绳的方法一般有两种：一种是手足并用，即双手握绳直臂悬垂，然后收腹屈腿夹绳，两腿蹬直，同时屈臂引体上升；另一种只用上肢，即双手握绳，两腿悬空，双臂用力向上引体，借助惯性，双手及时交替向上换握，使身体不断上升。爬绳下降时可用两腿夹绳，不要快速下滑，以防擦破手掌，也不要离地很高时松手跳下，以免摔伤。爬绳这一健身运动在中国比较普及，它不仅能发展力量、耐力和攀援技能，而且能培养人们勇敢顽强的意志品质。爬绳已被列为中国《国家体育锻炼标准》的项目之一。(见彩图)
