本论文首先对其历史沿革进行了本草考证及资料整理，在此基础上提出：现阶段应结合柴胡属植物野生资源状况，扩大《中华人民共和国药典》收录品种；将柴胡分为主要用药部位为根的“北方柴胡类”和使用全草入药的“南方柴胡类”，分别建立药效评价系统，找出可准确用于质量评价的物质基础，制定能有效进行质量控制的标准；并积极探索人工繁育系统，以缓解野生资源压力，使我国柴胡资源进入可持续发展的良性循环当中。
