为了查明湘中涟源凹陷的地表、地下构造特征及其构造演化史,采用地表地质露头观察,结合地震资料、重力资料和航磁资料综合解释等方法,湘中涟源凹陷可进一步划分为3个次一级的构造带,由西向东依次是:西部紧闭线形叠瓦状逆冲推覆构造带、中部宽缓褶断带和东部滑覆叠瓦冲断带。
