医疗保险费用于医疗保险事业的费用投入。医疗保险费的来源，可分为来自公共的医疗保险费用和来自个人的医疗保险费用。来自公共的保险费用，包括政府和企事业部门出资两部分。政府出资部分分为中央政府和地方政府出资，其费用从国家和地方的财政税收中支出。企事业部门出资由企业打入产品成本和利润积累。公共的医疗保险费用还有来自团体(宗教团体、慈善团体、企事业或个人)的捐助。来自个人的医疗保险费用主要是由个人缴纳的医疗保险金和就医时的个人负担金额。由于各国医疗保险制度不同，医疗保险费的来源渠道和比例也大不相同，对医疗保险费的管理方式也不相同。
