指心脏作功的能力。心脏主要功能是射血，将静脉回流的血液，通过心脏的舒张和收缩，射入大动脉，并随动脉的分支分布到全身各个组织器官，以满足机体的需要。心脏的工作效能可用心搏量或心排血量来代表。影响心脏作功的主要因素有心肌的收缩力、前负荷、后负荷、心率及心肌收缩力的协同性。1984年又发现心脏尚有内分泌功能。心房肌能分泌一种称为心房肽的激素，这种激素对维持心脏的正常功能具有一定的作用。
