患者仰卧，显露出全腹，检查者观察其腹部外形，可发现特殊的局限性腹壁膨隆或肿物。其为位置不定的鼓胀现象，大小不一，长短不等。有的为局部鼓包，有的具肠管外形。触之表面光滑、质软、囊感。叩诊多呈鼓音，此即肠形。肠形上有时可见不规则的波动，有的间或出现，有的此起彼伏，即肠蠕动波。
