| 长臂猿属 Hylobates；gibbons 灵长目猿猴亚目狭鼻组长臂猿科仅有的一属。通称长臂猿。在类人猿（包括黑猩猩、大猩猩、猩猩和长臂猿）中体型最小。因臂特别长而得名。体长45.6～63.5厘米，无尾，体重6～13千克。直立高不过0.9米；腿短，手掌比脚掌长，手指关节长；身体纤细，肩宽而臀部窄；有较长的犬齿。臀部有胼胝，无尾和颊囊。共6种。主要分布在东南亚。喉部有音囊，善鸣叫，不同种长臂猿的叫声有很大差别。雄猿一般为黑、棕或褐色；雌猿或幼猿色浅，为棕黄、金黄、乳白或银灰色。白掌长臂猿的手和脚及脸周围为白色。白眉长臂猿的眉脊有白色的眉毛。黑长臂猿有的亚种冠毛直立，有的两颊具白斑。 栖息于热带雨林和亚热带季雨林，树栖。白天活动。善于利用双臂交替摆动，手指弯曲呈钩，轻握树枝将身体抛出，腾空悠荡前进，一跃可达10余米，速度极快，能在空中只手抓住飞鸟。在地面或在悬空的藤蔓上行走时，双臂上举以保持平衡。结群生活，每群包括1对雌雄及其子女，一般不超过5～6只。食物以浆果为主，也吃树叶、小鸟、鸟蛋或昆虫。每胎产1仔。
长臂猿分布于中国华南、缅甸直到马来西亚和印度尼西亚大部岛屿的热带雨林。中国云南和海南省有黑长臂猿，云南特有白眉长臂猿和白掌长臂猿。数量稀少，已濒临绝灭，是中国一类保护动物。 |
