多年生草本，高60-150厘米。茎单一，直立，疏被蛛丝状毛或无毛。基生叶及茎下部叶花期枯萎；茎生叶无柄，多数，较密集，卵状长圆形或长圆形，长8-10(15)厘米，宽4-6厘米，羽状深裂，裂片线形或狭披针形，长1-2厘米，宽2-5毫米，先端尖，侧裂片通常6对；茎上部叶长圆状披针形，羽状分裂，最上部叶线形。头伏花序径1.5-2厘米，多数，排列成伞房状，花序梗密被白色蛛丝状绵毛，总苞半球形，长约5毫米，径6-8毫米，基部有小苞片，线形，长3.5毫米，总苞片1层，长圆形，先端长锐尖，边缘宽膜质，被短毛或无毛，边花10-15，舌状，长10-15毫米，宽1-2毫米，深黄色，中央花管状。瘦果长圆形，长2-2.5毫米，无毛，有肋；冠白污白色，糙毛状。花期8-9月，果期9-10月。
生于灌丛、林缘、山坡草地、河岸湿地及撂荒地。分布于我国东北、华北，朝鲜、日本、俄罗斯(西伯利亚)也有分布。
