制备方法:先由丙烯合成丁醛,在碱或酸的催化下,丁醛自身缩合生成2-乙基-3-羟基已醛。这一化合物很不稳定,经加氢即得2-乙基-1,3-已二醇。

用途:用于有机合成,可制取聚酯树脂、聚酯增塑剂、聚氨酯树脂等。该品对蚊蝇是有效的驱虫剂,也可用于生产化妆品或作为油墨溶剂。
