Based on the data of the 4~(th) and 5~(th) national census,this paper reviews the changing process of fertility level and birth sex ratio of Chinese Minorities from 1980 to 2000 by indirect estimation,explores the trend of birth sex ratio during the fertility level declines.
本文以“四普”、“五普”数据为基础,采用人口间接估计技术对20世纪80年代以来我国少数民族人口的生育水平和出生人口性别比变化的历史过程进行回顾,探讨生育水平下降过程中,出生人口性别比的变化趋势,并以蒙古族、回族和维吾尔族为例进行对比分析,结果表明当生育水平下降到较低水平时与出生人口性别比之间有明显的相关关系。

生育更替水平一代妇女所生育的女孩在其人数规模上，对母亲一代所能实现的更替水平。衡量生育更替水平有两种标志:一种是净生产率，另一种是总和生育率。用净生产率衡量时说明，某一妇女群所生育的女儿数存活到能够真正接替母亲一代的生育职能—成为新的一代母亲时，其人数规模和原来一代母亲完全相等，也就是净生产率为1，或生育更替水平值为1，则称之为实现了生育更替水平。用总和生育率衡量时，需要考虑一代人所生孩子成长为作父母之前将有部分死亡的可能性，而这种可能性又随社会经济条件的变化而变化。在当代经济条件下，一般认为一对夫妇平均生育2.1个孩子，亦即总和生育率等于2.1时，则称达到生育更替水平。达到或低于生育更替水平的总人口仍然可能在几十年内继续增长。因为过去的生育高峰会导致一个育龄人群的高度集中，因而总出生数将继续超过总死亡数，这种情况可能要持续相当长的一段时间，故会出现人口继续增长的趋势。
