描述CatharanthusG.Don长春花属，夹竹桃科，约6种，分布于非洲东部及亚洲东南部，其中长春花C.rosenus（L.）G.Don我国各地有栽培供观赏用。植株含长春花碱，有降低血压之效，亦能抗癌。草本；叶对生；叶腋内和叶腋间有腺体；花红色或白色，2－3朵组成聚伞花序，顶生或腋生；萼小；花冠高脚碟状，裂片5，旋转排列；雄蕊内藏，花丝圆筒状，花药顶端无毛；心皮2，分离，下有2腺体与彼等互生；柱头盘状，顶有束毛；果为2个蓇葖；种子无附属体。
