为兰科植物铁皮石斛Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo的茎。
【植物形态】
茎圆柱形,高15~50cm,粗4~8mm。叶鞘带肉质,矩圆状披针形,长3~6.5cm,宽0.8~2cm,顶端略钩。总状花序生于具叶或无叶茎的中部,有花2~4朵;花淡黄绿色,稍有香气;萼片长1.2~2cm;花瓣短于萼片,唇瓣卵状披针形,长1.3~1.6cm宽7~9mm,先端渐尖或短渐尖,近上部中间有圆形紫色斑块,近下部中间有黄色胼胝体。花期4~6月。 生于树上和岩石上。多加工成枫斗。
【性状】
茎圆柱形,长15~50cm,直径1.5~3mm,节间长1~4cm。表面黄色,基部稍有光泽,具纵纹,节上有花序柄痕及残存叶鞘;叶鞘短于节间,常与节间上部留下环状间隙,褐色,鞘口张开。质硬而脆,易折断,断面纤维状。鲜品茎直径3~6mm,表面黄绿色或黑绿色,叶鞘灰白色。气微,嚼之有粘性。

茎含多糖等。
【性味及功能主治】
同金钗石斛。
