传统的超声检测均在体表进行。妇科盆腔器官的检查常常需要在大量饮水后进行,以使膀胱充盈、减少肠管干扰,使影像清晰。为此饮水憋尿常使患者痛苦不堪,也有因各种原因膀胱充盈不满意者,影响了检测效果及诊断的准确性。为此一种经阴道探查盆腔器官的超声探头应运而生。将这种探头贴紧阴道顶端后,可清晰扫查盆腔内器官,不受肠管干扰,图像清晰。这种经阴道进行的超声检查省却了饮水憋尿的过程、深受医生与患者欢迎,并由此发展了在阴道B超指引下行卵泡穿刺的技术,促进了人工辅助生殖技术的发展。
