| 社会服务 social service 以提供劳务的形式来满足社会需求的社会活动。狭义指直接为改善和发展社会成员生活福利而提供的服务，如衣、食、住、行、用等方面的生活福利服务。广义的社会服务包括生活福利性服务、生产性服务和社会性服务。生产性服务指直接为物质生产提供的服务，如原材料运输、能源供应、信息传递、科技咨询、劳动力培训等。社会性服务指为整个社会正常运行与协调发展提供的服务，如公用事业、文教卫生事业、社会保障和社会管理等。社会服务按服务性质可分物质性服务和精神性服务；按服务的程度又分为基本性服务、发展性服务和享受性服务。 社会服务运动始于1884年英国伦敦成立的托因比服务所。1889年后在芝加哥西区成立了赫尔大厦服务社。此后社会服务运动迅速传到西欧大部分国家以及东南亚、日本。中国的社会服务和社会管理是社会工作的重要组成部分。主要包括社会保障福利服务、社会风俗改造等精神文明服务，基层社会群众自我教育管理等民主建设服务，社会团体管理等社会行政管理性服务。有以全体社会成员为对象的普遍服务，以烈属、军属、复员退伍军人、老年人、残疾人、无依靠儿童、贫困者等为对象的特殊服务。以这些社会服务为内容的社会工作，在预防、解决社会问题，处理社会矛盾，调整社会关系，改善社会生活方式，完善社会制度，减少社会发展的障碍因素等方面，具有重要作用。 |
