描述SophoraL.槐属，蝶形花科，约80种，分布于温带和亚热带地区，我国约23种，南北均产之，其中槐S.japonicaL.供观赏用，花入药或为黄色染料，苦参S.flavescensAit.亦入药，茎叶煎汁为驱虫剂。灌木或小乔木，很少为草本；奇数羽状复叶，小叶对生，全缘；花排成顶生的总状花序或圆锥花序；萼5齿裂；花冠白色或黄色，少为蓝紫色，旗瓣圆形或阔倒卵形，通常比龙骨瓣短，翼瓣斜长圆形，龙骨瓣近于直立；雄蕊10，分离或很少于基部合生为环状；子房具短柄，有胚珠多数，花柱内弯；荚果具短柄，圆柱形、念珠状或稍扁，肉质至木质，不开裂或迟开裂；种子倒卵形或球形。
