性质:无定形二氧化硅的水合物。白色胶冻状或絮状固体。目前被确认的有正硅酸(原硅酸)H4SiO4(x=1,y=2)、偏硅酸H2SiO3(x=1,y=1)、二硅酸H2Si2O5(x=2,y=1)、焦硅酸H6Si2O7(x=2,y=3)。硅酸组成复杂,随条件而异。水中溶解度较小。呈弱酸性。由可溶性硅酸盐稀溶液和酸作用制得正硅酸的不稳定水溶液,失水成偏硅酸即通称的硅酸。放置能缩合成多分子聚合物称硅酸溶胶(mSiO2·nH2O),简称硅溶胶,加热脱水可得硅胶(多孔SiO2含水4%)。由细孔球形硅胶用盐酸浸泡4~6h后用纯水洗涤,烘干72h,用纯水洗涤,再在70~80℃二次烘干制得。也可由硅酸钠与硫酸反应生成硅溶胶,经凝聚,一次洗涤,干燥,浓盐酸浸泡,二次洗涤,干燥而制得。用作气体的吸附剂,油脂和蜡等的脱色剂,催化剂载体,以及分析化学试剂等。
