先天性无甲状腺呈散发。表现：产前发生骨不成熟，囟门大及不成熟的面部骨结构，皮下组织黏液水肿，下眼睑尤其明显，肌肉块增大和哭声粗，舌大，活动减低，懒惰，便泌及皮肤凉，干燥，有斑点。脐疝新生儿黄疸。出生时及早检查新生儿甲状腺素T4或促甲状腺素水平，早期的甲状腺素治疗，小儿的生长发育和智力可达正常。
