免疫性是动物在长期进化过程中逐渐发展起来的防御感染的维护机体完整性的十分有效而灵巧的手段，免疫系统的特殊功能是识别“自我”和“非自我”的物质，其调节功能是对自身的物质不起反应，而对外源的及体内改变了的物质起免疫反应，以排除其对抗体的危害。免疫调节反应还清除体内衰老和突变细胞来维持机体免疫状态的自身稳定性。机体的这种免疫功能是在神经体液系统调节下，通过细胞和体液因素之间，以及细胞彼此之间互相协作和互相制约而维持常态的，免疫功能失调则会造成自身免疫疾病和发生某些肿瘤，因此利用免疫调节反应这种对立统一的规律，以维护机体健康和完整性。
