由疱疹病毒科( Herpesviridae)甲疱疹病毒亚科(Alphaherpesvirinae)中的鸭瘟病毒所引起的一种急性、高度致死性传染病。主要感染鸭,又称鸭病毒性肠炎。鹅也可得病,但鸡和鸽不受感染。以全身组织出血、消化道粘膜受到严重损害和实质器官发生退行性变化为特征。欧洲、北美、亚洲等国均有发生。病鸭虚弱、口渴、腹泻,很快衰竭死亡。部分病鸭头部肿大或下颌水肿,俗称大头瘟。感病种鸭的产蛋量明显下降,且不断死亡,在血管、消化和淋巴组织系统中均有病变。根据流行情况、临诊症状和尸体剖检诊断并不困难。确诊应借助于病毒分离或用小鸭进行血清中和试验。本病易与禽霍乱、中毒等混淆,可用接种家兔、小鸡和小鸭的方法区别(鸭瘟病毒只能引起小鸭发病)。用经鸡胚传代致弱的鸭瘟病毒疫苗接种,可产生较强免疫力。
