【来源】
为木通科植物矮杞树的根。
【植物形态】
矮杞树 落叶灌木，高达6米。单数羽状复叶，互生，无托叶；小叶13～25，对生，卵圆形或矩圆形，长5～14.5厘米，先端渐尖，基部宽楔形或近圆形，全缘；叶柄无毛。圆锥花序顶生；花杂性，下垂，钟形；萼片6；雄花有雄蕊6个，合成单体，退化心皮残存；雌花具6个不孕雄蕊，心皮3，花柱倒卵状矩圆形，无柱头。浆果圆柱状，微弯，长5～10厘米，成熟后蓝色或蓝紫色，腹缝开裂。种子扁平，矩圆形，黑色，长约1厘米。 生于阴山坡或山沟的杂木林下。分布云南、广西、贵州、江西。浙江、安徽、湖北、四川、陕西等地。 本植物的果实(猫儿屎果)亦供药用，另详专条。

【功用主治】
①《贵州草药》："清肺止咳，驱风除湿。治肺痨咳嗽，风湿关节痛。" ②《陕西中草药》："根及果实清热解毒。治肛门烂，阴痒，疝气。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，1～2两；或浸酒。外用：煎水洗。
