裸子植物，三尖杉科。灌木或小乔木，株高5-10米。叶于小枝上排成2列，线形，长2-4厘米，宽0.2-0.3厘米，先端凸尖，基部圆形，下面有两条气孔带。雄球花生于叶腋，6-7聚生成头状；雌球花具柄，生小枝基部。种子生总梗，卵圆形，长1.8-2.5厘米，宽1.2-1.4厘米；种外被红褐色、肉质假种皮。
我国特有树种，产长江流域以南。种仁富油脂，属油脂植物。也是木材植物和观赏植物。
