有两方面的含义：①如一条静脉干的两端都是毛细血管网，则称该静脉干为门静脉；②特指肝门静脉，为一短而粗的静脉干，长6～8cm，由肠系膜上静脉和脾静脉在胰头后面汇合而成。收集食管腹端、胃、小肠、大肠(至直肠上部）、胰、胆囊和脾的静脉血。其主要生理功能在于将肠道吸收的物质输送到肝脏进行合成、解毒、储存，并可分泌胆汁。当门静脉发生循环障碍时，血液易发生倒流，产生门脉高压症。
