植物形态：半常绿灌木，高约60厘米，树皮灰褐色，富纤维，不易折断。叶互生，常聚生于枝端，倒披针形，长3~9厘米，基部楔形，先端尖或钝，有微凸，叶表绿色，背面粉白色，近无柄。花黄色，有芳香，顶生头状花序，常3~8朵，无苞片，萼呈花冠状，圆筒形，4裂，无花瓣，雄蕊8枚，2列，子房上位，1室。核果卵圆形，鲜红色。 生态分布：产我国中部至长江中游；多生于阔叶树林下阴湿处。 药用部分：茎皮及根皮入药，全年可采收。 用途：性味苦、辛、温，有小毒。能止痛、散血、补血；有麻醉性。俗云"打的就地爬，离不了祖师麻"。主用于跌打损伤、周身疼痛、头痛、心胃痛、腰腿痛。又治四肢麻木，发热骨蒸等症。用量：1~3钱。
