判别分析在诊断疾病上的应用。把就诊者的症状、体征等数量化和系统化，根据其数量规律诊断疾病的方法。计量诊断比较多用的是概率型判别分析，就若干种疾病或一种疾病的若干个型别，收集数量相当的一批就诊患者的完全病历，根据病人的各项症状，体征及化验指标等总结出疾病分类或分型的概型判别函数，或简化成相应的计量诊断指数表，作为新病例的计量诊断之用。把就诊者的各项症状、体征及化验指标代入判别函数，或用计量诊断表算出相应的指数之和，看患哪种或哪型疾病的概率最大，就诊断为哪种或哪型疾病。较为复杂的计量诊断工作，常用电子计算机处理，故又称为"电子计算机辅助诊断"。
