澧州药山禅师惟俨卒。大儒唐伸为之碑曰。上嗣位明年。澧阳郡药山释氏大师。以十二月六日终于修心之所。后八年门人状先师之行。西来京师告于崇敬寺大德。求所以发挥先师之耿光垂于不朽。崇敬大德于余为从母兄也。尝参径山得其心要。自兴善宽敬示寂之后。四方从道之人质疑传妙。罔不诣崇敬者。尝谓伸曰。吾道之明于药山。犹尔教之闻于洙泗。智炬虽灭法雷犹响。岂可使明德不照至行堙没哉。惟大师生南康信丰。自为童时未尝处群儿戏弄中。往往独坐如念如思。年十七即南度大庾抵潮之西山得惠照禅师。乃落发服缁执礼以事。大历中受具于衡岳希琛律师。释礼矩仪动如夙习。一朝乃言曰。大丈夫当离法自静。焉能屑屑事细行于衣巾耶。是时南岳有迁。江西有寂。中岳有洪。皆悟心契。乃知大圭之质岂俟磨砻。照乘之珍难晦符彩。自是寂以大乘法闻四方。学徒至于指心传要。众所不能达者。师必默识悬解。不违如愚。居寂之室垂二十年。寂曰。汝之所得。可谓浃于心术布于四体。欲益而无所益。欲知而无所知。浑然天和合于本无。吾无有以教矣。佛以开示群盲为大功。度灭众恶为大德。尔当以功德普济群迷。宜作梯航无久滞此。由是陟罗浮涉清凉。历三峡游九江。贞元初因憩药山喟然叹曰。吾生寄世若萍蓬耳。又何效其飘转耶。既披蓁结庵才疪趺座。乡人知者因赍携饮食奔走而往。师曰。吾无德于人。何以劳人乎哉。并谢而不受。乡人跪曰。愿闻日费之具。曰米一升足矣。自是尝以山蔬数本佐食。一食讫就座转法华华严涅槃。昼夜若一。终始如是殆三十年矣。游方求益之徒。知教之在此。后数岁而僧徒葺居禅室梁栋鳞差。其众不可胜数。至于沃烦正覆道源成流。有以见寂公先知之明矣。忽一旦谓其徒曰。乘邮而行。及莫而息。未有久行而不息者。吾至所诣矣。吾将有息矣。灵源自清。混之者相。能灭诸相是无有色。穷本绝外汝其悉之。语毕隐几而化。春秋八十四。僧腊六十夏。入室弟子冲虚等迁座。建塔于禅居之东。遵本教也。始师尝以大綀布为衣。以竹器为跷。自剃其发自具其食。虽门人数百童侍甚广。未尝易其力。珍羞百品鲜果骈罗。未尝易其食。冬裘重燠夏服轻疏。未尝易其衣。华室靖深香榻严洁。未尝易其处。麋鹿环绕猛兽伏前。未尝易其观。贵贱迭来顶谒床下。未尝易其礼。非夫罄万有契真空离攀缘之病本性清净乎物表。焉能遗形骸忘嗜欲久而如一者耶。其他硕臣重官归依修礼于师之道。未有及其门阃者。故不列之于篇。铭曰。一物在中。触境而摇。我示其源。不境不跳。西方圣人。实言其要。其要既得。可言其妙。我源自济。我真自灵。大包万有。细出无形。曹溪所传。徒藏于密。身世俱空。曾何有物。自见曰明。是为至精。出没在我。谁曰死生。刻之琬琰。立之岩岫。作碑者伸。期于不朽
