性质:又称萜类或萜类似物。它包括自然界存在的(主要在植物中)具有(C5H8)通式的许多类型化合物,以及它们的含氧的和饱和程度不等的衍生物。橡胶、植物色素、挥发油、树脂、苦味素等大多属于萜类或含有萜类成分。异戊二烯(isoprene)是构成萜类碳骨架的基本单元,自然界中存在的萜类化合物都是异戊二烯的聚合物或其衍生物。根据分子中异戊二烯单元的数目将萜类化合物分类为:单萜、倍半萜、二萜、二倍半萜、三萜等;此种分类方法目前仍然采用。
