为蓼科植物红蓼的花序。植物形态详"荭草"条。
【药材】
干燥花序，花多数，攒簇成穗，花被5瓣，淡红色或带白色，初开时常呈扁形的半开放状态。
【功用主治】
治心、胃气痛，痢疾，痞块，横痃。 《纲目》:"散血，消积，止痛。"
【用法与用量】
内服:煎汤，1～2钱；研末、熬膏或浸酒。外用:熬膏贴。
【选方】
①治胃脘血气作痛:水荭花一大撮，水二钟，煎一钟服。(《董炳集验方》) ②治心气疞痛:水荭花为末，热酒服二钱。(《摘元方》) ③治痢疾初起:水荭花(取花、叶)炒末。每服三钱，红痢蜜汤下，白痢沙糖汤下。(《经验广集》) ④贴痞:水荭花(花、叶、茎、根同用)，取一、二担水，满锅煮透，去渣，存汁，慢火熬成膏，纸绢任摊，狗皮更好。(《经验广集》水荭花膏) ⑤治横痃:荭草花一握，红糖五钱。捣烂加热敷贴，日换一次。(《福建民间草药》)
