描述CynanchumL.鹅绒藤属，萝藦科，约200种，分布于热带和温带地区，我国约53种，全国均产之，其中不少种类可供药用，如牛皮消C.auriculatumRoyle，白薇C.atratumBunge；徐长卿C.paniculatum（Bunge）Kitagawa，白前C.glaucescens（Decne.）Hand.-Mazz.等。草本，有缠绕状、蔓状或稀直立的茎；叶对生，稀轮生，常心形，基部数脉；花排成腋生、不规则的聚伞花序或伞形花序；花萼内面基部有小腺体5－10个或更多或无；花冠近辐状，深5裂，裂片旋转排列；副花冠膜质，形成一杯状或管状体，边缘10裂，里面有5或10个附加裂片；花药顶有一膜质体；花粉块在每一花药内2个，下垂；柱头短，基部膨大，五角形，顶端全缘或2裂；蓇葖双生或1个不发育，外果皮平滑，很少具软刺或具翅；种子具种毛。
