又称中性粒细胞。是血液中粒性白细胞的一种，直径10～12μm，胞浆中含有既不嗜酸也不嗜碱性的颗粒，故称为中性粒细胞。起源于骨髓中向粒细胞系发展的定向干细胞，在有关体液因子的调节下分化为原粒细胞、中幼粒细胞及晚幼粒细胞，最后发育为成熟的杆状核和分叶核细胞。周围血中，中性粒细胞计数及占白细胞总数的百分比因不同年龄而异。由于它对炎症刺激有较强的趋化性，可向细菌感染区迅速游动并吞噬和消灭病原体。在化脓感染时中性粒细胞计数增高，有核左移现象。
