释法进。蜀中新繁人。在俗精进不啖辛腥。在田农作。以铧刃为钟磬。步影而斋。有送食晚。便饮水而已。所犁田地不损虫蚁。一时空中声曰。进阇梨。出家时到。如是四五声。合家同闻。进因诣洛口山出家。行头陀不居寺舍。时隋蜀王秀。闻名知难邀请。遣参军郁九闾长卿往。便将左右十人。辞王曰。承有道德。如请不来当申俗法。王曰。不须威逼。但以理延。明当达此。长卿出郭门。顾曰。今日将尔辈往兜率天请弥勒佛亦望得。何况山中道人有何不来。初至吉阳山下。日暮见虎道蹲。命人射之。马皆退走。欲投村恐违王命。俄见一僧负幞上山。长卿命住为伴。余从并留。步至寺所。召入至床。又见虎在床下。怖不自安。进遣虎出。具述王意。虽有答对。而怖形于相状。进曰。檀越初出郭门一何雄勇。今来至此一何怯惮。长卿顶礼默然。因宿至旦。令先往益。贫道后来。行至望乡台。顾视进行已及。即与同见王。入内受戒。即日辞出。所获嚫施一无所受。令往法聚寺停。王顾诸佐曰。见此僧令寡人毛竖。戒神所护也。后更召入城。王遥见即礼。进曰。王自安乐。进自安乐。何为苦相恼乱作无益之事耶。诸僧谏曰。王为地主。应善问讯。何为诃责。进曰。大德畏死。须求王意。眼见恶事都不谏勉何名弘教。进不畏死。责过何嗛乎。虽盛饰床筵厚味重结。而但坐绳床粗饼而已。乃至妃姬受戒。但责放逸不念无常。又辞入山。重延三日。限满便返。诸清信等咸设食而邀之。至时诸家各称进到。总集计会。乃分身数十处焉。有时与僧出山赴食。欻尔而笑。人问其故。曰山寺净人穿壁盗蜜耳。及还果如所说斯事非一。旦述之耳。初王门师慈藏者。为州僧官。立政严猛。瓶衣香花少阙加捶。僧众苦之。而为王所重。无敢谏者。以事白进请为救济。答曰。其威力如此。岂能受语耶。苦请不已。进造藏房门。藏走出。谓曰。法门未可如是。尔亦大力也。还返入房。蜀人以大甚为大力。自此藏便息言。僧由此安。以开皇中卒山。年九十六。
