由于恶性肿瘤细胞比正常细胞容易从原位脱落，故可用各种方法取得瘤细胞或组织颗粒，鉴定其性质。例如：用浓集法收集痰、腹水、脑水或冲洗液等的细胞；用拉网法收集食管和胃的脱落细胞；用印片法取得表浅的瘤体表面细胞，还可用穿刺法取得比较深在的瘤细胞。
