集中量数(measurement ofcontroltenden-cy)描述或反映集中趋势的量数，亦称“数据的中心位置”、“集中趋势”等。它是一组数据的代表值，能说明一组数据的典型情况。人们通常进行的测量，是想知道被测物体的真正有关数值，即真值。但是由于受许多主客观条件的限制，不可能获得这个真值。这样，统计学中就用一些有代表性的数据来代替它，这些数据就是集中量数。包括:算术平均数，中位数、众数、几何平均数、调和平均数、加权平均数等。集中量数的作用有三:(l)利用集中量数可以对各个总体(或各个样本)进行比较。(2)利用集中量数可研究总体的一般水平在时间上的变化。(3)利用集中量数可分析现象之间的依存关系。由于一组变量值的次数分布有集中趋势和离中趋势，所以，单是集中量数不能反映一个分布的全貌。因此，当用平均数描述集中趋势时，应同时写出标准差，用I土s的形式表示整个分布的概貌。 (任旭明撰金志成审)
