性社会学术语。指杜绝性的行为与 意 念。它与节欲是有区别的。节欲承认性是人生的需要，但需要控制；而禁欲则从根本上否定 人的性需要，将性作为一种罪恶来加以反对和禁止。西方基督教的“性即罪”，中国宋代程 朱理 学倡导的“存天理，灭人欲”即是这种思想的代表。然而禁欲虽然可以部分地实行，如一些 狂热的宗教信徒所严格遵守的独身制那样，但却很难彻底：杜绝性行为不等于杜绝性意念； 能在清醒时不动欲念，不等于不做性梦。因此禁欲实质上是向人类本性宣战，而结果反而有 害。
