| 锡伯族 中国少数民族。主要分布在辽宁、吉林、黑龙江，尚有一部分居住在新疆察布查尔及霍城、伊宁、乌鲁木齐。1990年人口17万。东北地区锡伯族人已通用汉语文，新疆的锡伯族人使用锡伯语，属阿尔泰语系满-通古斯语族满语支。用锡伯文。锡伯族与古鲜卑人有渊源关系，史称的须卜、师比、席百、犀毗、史伯，皆为鲜卑的不同音译。可认为是鲜卑后裔，系东胡一支；也有的认为是室韦女真后裔，与满族同源。初居于嫩江、绰尔河、松花江一带即今锡伯先民。至17世纪为满洲统治者征服 ，全部编入满洲八旗 。清乾隆二十九年 (1764)，调锡伯官兵并偕亲眷共3000余人远戍新疆 ，在伊犁河南屯防。至此，锡伯人分居东北、西北两地。原以渔猎为主，南迁后渐转向农业，及至西移新疆，屯垦戍边卓有成绩。由于历史原因，东北锡伯族习俗、语文已与满、汉人基本相同；新疆锡伯族人尚保持有本民族的语文、习俗的许多特点。多信萨满教、喇嘛教。喜爱体育活动，尤精于骑射。中华人民共和国建立后，在新疆成立察布查尔锡伯自治县，社会经济均有发展。
