是造物主玩弄的一个迷藏，它居然瞒过了徐霞客的眼睛，直到本世纪才向人展露真容。名山如名著，就这般能予人以不断发现的惊喜。在雁荡山众多瀑布中，三折瀑最为奇异，其中尤以中折瀑为极致——有人甚至称它为“雁山第一胜景”。
据说包藏中折瀑的是冷却了的火山口，火与水如此相克又相生，老天竟造就地间的一种奇观。瀑分三折天上来，自属高远型风景，然而就在近旁。一条叫做初月谷的狭谷却显示了雁荡山幽深的一面，此谷把气象万千的雁荡山“第一名嶂”铁城嶂抱在怀里，藏藏抱抱反而把境界廓大了。“藏”是雁荡山的一种绝技。
