性质：血型是受某一遗传位点控制的红细胞抗原(血型物质)的特定系统，已确定的至少有21个血型系统，其中ABO系统了解较清楚且具有较大的临床意义。这一遗传位点有许多等位基因，如ABO系统中的A、B和O。血型指抗原表型，常用相应的抗体来辨别，人红细胞质膜含有A型或B型或AB型或O型血型抗原(主要是糖鞘脂)，人体内一般不产生针对自身物质的抗体，例如A型的人不产生抗A的抗体，但产生对外源抗原B的抗体，能使B型或AB型血红细胞凝集，同样B型的人血浆中有抗A的抗体，可使A型或AB型血红细胞凝集，AB型的人血浆中无抗A抗体、抗B抗体，故称为万能受血者，O型的红细胞上无A抗原、B抗原，故称万能供血者。血型抗原也存在于某些分泌物如唾液、胃的分泌液等中，是糖蛋白。
