植物形态：多年生草本，根稍肥厚，茎直立，高30~80厘米。叶对生，披针形，至三角状卵形，长2.5~8厘米，宽6~25厘米，基部圆形，先端渐尖，无柄，3主脉，边缘反卷。花蓝色，单生，顶生聚伞花序，萼、花冠、雄蕊均为5数、雌蕊1枚，子房上位，1室。蒴果卵圆形，有柄。 生态分布：产我国北部至长江流域各省；多生于向阳山坡的荒山草地上。 药用部分：根（龙胆）入药，秋季采收。 用途：性味苦、寒。能泻肝胆实火，清下焦湿热，并有驱风功效。治寒热惊痫，协痛目赤，咽痛，口苦及痈肿，囊肿，阴痒等。用量：1~3钱。
