  系指盲肠到直肠间的大肠;但有时也泛指全部大肠。结肠外形有结肠袋、结肠带和结肠垂三大特征。这可明显地区别于小肠和直肠。结肠通常分为升结肠、横结肠、降结肠和乙状结肠四段;但右结肠概念中则包括有盲肠。结肠有分泌粘液,吸收水分,形成粪便的作用。
